Everybody should be healthy to 100. This is normal biological phenomenon. What is the situation now? The average of people's life should be 120 but only 70, less 50 years. Some people even are not healthy in 40s, some get cardiovascular diseases in 60s and even die, 40 years early to get sickness, disability, even death become the common phenomenon.
Do you know some elementary school students get hypertension, some high school students get arteriosclerosis. Now, cardiovascular disease is the first in mortality rate of the world. Last year, fifteen millions people died of cardiovascular disease, about a quarter of the total death. Some people believe that cardiovascular disease, cancers and diabetes becoming more and more is due to economic improvement and people getting rich, they eat wrong and more than they need. It is only the superficial reason. The real problem is that people lack for the knowledge of heath. We should full realize that so many diseases we have had or we will have had just because our lifestyle is not civilized enough. If we can insist to live in a civilized health lifestyle, most of the diseases would be far away from us.
What is the civilized health lifestyle, it contents four principles ; Reasonable Food, Suitable exercise, no smoking limited alcohol (if you are a vegetarian, please insist not to take alcohol), and balanced mind.
1. Reasonable food: Recent years, most researchers and nutritionists have recommended to eat more vegetables less meat, more raw food less cooked food, more natural food less processed food. The similar principle I used is one high ( fiber such as multiple grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds ) three low ( fat, salt, CHO ). I have been seldom eating meat and drinking sweet beverage for 10 years, because meat contents plenty of cholesterol and saturated fat can cause cardiovascular disease. sweet beverage contents corn fructose syrup which easily increase our body weight and triglyceride in blood cause arteriosclerosis and fat liver.
2. Suitable exercise: Exercise is also one of the most important factors for health. 2400 years ago , the ancestor of modern medicine Hippocrate ever said: sunshine, air, water and exercise are the sources of lives. So exercise for health is as important as sunshine, air and water for lives . On a rock mountain in ancient Greece graved such words: If you want to be healthy, to run. If you want to be intelligent, to run. If you want to be beautiful, to run. It means; running can make people healthy, intelligent and slim. Some experts believe that walking is the best exercise for people in any age. Tai Chi is also a good exercise especial for senior. It has been proved which can improve neurological system and increase balance function.
3. No smoking and limited alcohol; Smoking harm respiratory system and cardiovascular system. Quit earlier is better. Small amount of alcohol is OK. Large amount would harm liver and neurological system. (if you are a vegetarian, please insist not to take alcohol)
4. Balanced mind: A same thing, if you think about it positively or optimistically, you will be full of joy and hope; if you think about it negatively or pessimistically, you will be full of discourage and sadness. In 18th century, a French General was seriously wounded by a gun shell in a battle at the front. When he was discharged from the hospital and returned to his troop, his servant soldier saw that he had lost a leg, he was frightened crying out. The General smiled and joked " What are you crying? Since then you have only to polish one boot, isn't it better? How optimistic he was? Optimists try to find hopes from defeats, pessimists try to find defeats from successes. Hippocrate had ever said that 'Patient's instinct is patient's doctor, doctor only help pts' instinct'. Our bodies have strong recreation ability. If we can keep our bodies in good conditions, Our instinct are our doctors, The best doctors are ourself.
Please remember the four basic principles of the modern lifestyle; reasonable food, suitable exercise, no smoking limited alcohol (if you are a vegetarian, please insist not to take alcohol), and balanced mind, practice periodically and insistently. Live to 100 is not a dream. It depends on yourself.
